The New Leicester Childrens Hospital

New Children's Hospital

Leicester Children’s Hospital is predominately based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) and provides care for children with a wide range of conditions from surgery and cancer to medical emergencies and broken bones.

Our children’s heart service (EMCHC) is currently based at the Glenfield Hospital, providing specialist surgery and treatment for children with heart conditions and abnormalities.

Plans for our move to a single children’s hospital

The Trust has announced its intention to move all children’s services to a single site at the Leicester Royal Infirmary as part of a major investment in new and refurbished facilities.

Based on the current plan, the children’s heart service will move to the LRI in 2020, and plans for the rest of the Children’s Hospital will follow thereafter as a part of UHL’s wider Reconfiguration Plan.

This exciting development will bring us in line with the new cardiac standards and help us to work more effectively as part of a wider team. The co-location of all of our children’s services will bring huge benefits to patients, their families and staff alike, reducing the need for multiple trips to our hospitals, and creating an identity for our Children’s Hospital.

We are working hard with the project development team to ensure that the new facilities meet the needs of all our patients and their families.
