Paediatric Intensive Care in Leicester is a single unit on two sites, the Paediatric Cardiac and ECMO Intensive Care on the Glenfield Hospital site and the Children’s Intensive Care and High Dependency Unit on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site. This ethos of a single unit on two sites is practically reinforced by close staff links at all levels.

We nurture an innovative and active quality improvement and safety culture.
The Consultant Team
“A Paediatric Intensivist is a Consultant who has successfully completed approved higher training (a minimum of two years at Specialist Registrar level) in Paediatric Intensive Care, who works exclusively in Paediatric Intensive Care and who has control over the management, admission and discharge of patients to and from the PICU. An Intensivist’s non-clinical (administrative, education and research) time is also devoted to the PICU. This definition identifies individuals whose input into patient care is focused on a specific period of the hospital stay and whose responsibility for further follow-up is minimal.”
